The Dallas County Courthouse, built of Bedford stone with a 128-foot tower, was dedicated in September 1902, and the Adel Public Square Historic District joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2009, with its early-1900s brick streets included in the listing. On the second Saturday in August, the square hosts the Adel Sweet Corn Festival, where the Adel Partners Chamber serves seven tons of free sweet corn.
The Raccoon River Valley Trail, an 89-mile route through 14 communities, enters town over a lighted bridge. The 23-acre Kinnick-Feller Riverside Park has a boat ramp to the Raccoon River and the field where Nile Kinnick played football as a boy. My tip for buyers: walk the brick streets around the square, then ride a stretch of the trail.
